Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Merzouga

Our journey commences as we meet at the designated location in Fes. From there, we venture southeastward through the Middle Atlas, traversing Ifrane, often likened to the Moroccan Switzerland, and Azrou, where we pause to explore the renowned Cedar Forest, home to the largest population of Barbary apes in Morocco. Continuing our route southwards, we encounter nomadic communities living amidst the rugged terrain, eventually arriving in Midelt for a satisfying lunch. Crossing the Atlas Mountains, we immerse ourselves in the breathtaking scenery of forests, springs, and Berber villages until we reach Errachidia, the gateway to the desert. Our journey culminates in Erfoud, and finally, we arrive at our hotel or riad in the Merzouga desert. After a refreshing mint tea, we prepare for an enchanting camel trek, reveling in the sunset and trying our hand at sandboarding from the towering dunes. We retire to traditional Berber tents for a night filled with the rhythmic beats of drums under the starlit sky.

 

Day 2: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi – Overnight in Berber Tent


Following breakfast at the riad, we embark on an exploratory journey of the area, immersing ourselves in the culture and music of the Gnawa people, originally from Sudan. Nearby, the tranquil Lake of Merzouga offers a glimpse into the region’s diverse bird populations. In the afternoon, guided by experienced camel handlers, we venture into the vast sand-sea of Erg Chebbi, where we spend the night in a cozy Berber tent, indulging in a delicious dinner under the desert sky, accompanied by traditional music.

 

Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorges – Palm Groves of Tinghir – Dades Valley


Early morning brings the opportunity to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the desert, followed by a trek back to Merzouga village. En route, we marvel at the ever-changing beauty of the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast at the riad, we depart for Rissani, where we explore the bustling market, steeped in tradition and history. Our journey continues to the Todra Gorges, the highest and narrowest gorges in Morocco, and the lush palm groves of Tinghir. After lunch amidst the rugged landscape of the gorge, we traverse the scenic Dades Valley, renowned for its majestic rock formations and ancient kasbahs. Our accommodation for the night is a charming hotel overlooking the valley.

 

Day 4: Dades Valley – Kasbah Amridil – Palm Groves of Skoura – Ouarzazate


Following breakfast, we journey through the captivating Dades Valley, known as Asif N’dades in Berber, towards Kalaat Mgouna and Ouarzazate. En route, we encounter the famed “Thousand Kasbahs” route, offering ample opportunities for memorable photographs. A stop in Kalaat Mgouna allows us to acquire rosewater, a fragrant souvenir of our journey. Continuing on, we visit the historic Amridil Kasbah, once home to Berber chieftains, before reaching our accommodation in Ouarzazate.

 

Day 5: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – Tizi N’Tichka Pass – Marrakech


An early breakfast precedes our departure towards the fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its cinematic history. After exploring the iconic Kasbah, we set our course for Marrakech, crossing the scenic Tizi N’Tichka Pass, the highest point in Morocco. Along the way, we pause to admire the panoramic views and picturesque Berber villages. As the afternoon unfolds, we arrive in Marrakech, where we check into our riad within the bustling Medina, concluding our remarkable journey through the diverse landscapes and cultural heritage of Morocco.
