Traveling along a well-maintained asphalt road, we’re greeted by spectacular vistas as we make our way from the city of Tineghir to the gorge and onward to the desert. Todra Gorge is a haven for rock climbers, thanks to its rugged rock faces and varied terrain. Experience an unforgettable day immersed in the desert as we embark on a ‘Date with the Sunrise.’ Set your alarm early to witness the breathtaking sunrise atop a dune close to our camp, offering a mesmerizing spectacle gifted by nature itself. After marveling at the sunrise, we return to Merzouga on camelback, where a hearty breakfast awaits us.

Following breakfast, we embark on a journey skirting the expansive Erg Chebbi, home to the towering Big Dune of Morocco, standing at over 250 meters high. Our route traces the historic ‘Paris – Dakar’ road, leading us through desert landscapes that eventually give way to the mountainous terrain near Agelia.

Our adventure continues with a stop at Tissardmin oasis, where fossil quarries still dot the landscape, offering glimpses into the region’s geological past. Traveling along roads adorned with nomad settlements, we uncover their traditions and way of life. After a satisfying breakfast, we embark on our final day’s journey towards the north, traversing the majestic Tafilalet palm grove, renowned as the largest in the world. As we navigate the 20-kilometer stretch adorned with thousands of palm trees, we’re treated to a picturesque view of nature’s bounty. Our route leads us to the Ziz Valley, nourished by the river flowing from the High Atlas mountains. Here, we pause to admire the panoramic vista from a high vantage point, capturing the beauty of the valley and the charming town of Aoufous.

Continuing our journey, we make a stop in Midelt, affectionately known as the ‘capital of Apple,’ nestled in the heart of the Atlas mountains. Here, amidst the rugged terrain, we have the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely lunch. Following our meal, we resume our journey further south, passing through several towns where glimpses of nomadic life can be observed in traditional tents.
